Sephora brand Smoky Eye Kit 80% off retail!

Wooooohoooo for more ridiculously cheap beauty tools!!! Everyone wants smoky eyes, but I for one don't want to cough up 50 bucks to get them.  Amazon has the Sephora kit for only 10.00 (plus 5.95 shipping).  The kit is usually $50!!! This would be a fantastic stocking stuffer, that any girl would be thrilled to discover on Christmas morning, or it would make a great gift to yourself to get dolled up for date night.  Seriously, you can't get nice makeup this cheap anywhere else.  I LOOOVE Sephora brand, I actually prefer it to the designer brands that they sell at Sephora.  You can use the link above, or go here to pick up your SEPHORA COLLECTION Beauty In A Box Brown Smoky Eyes Palette

1.00 off wyb 4 Lean Cuisine

New 1.00 off wyb 4 Lean Cuisine meals coupon, get it here!  These frequently go on sale, and they're easy to stick in the freezer and then pop in the microwave when you're feeling lazy.  It keeps you from eating the french fries that are also in the freezer.

This weekend's inserts

You may already know by now, but we should be getting 6 inserts this weekend in the paper.  Supposedly they will be Smart Source, Pepsi Moments, Red Plum, P & G, and Susan G Komen Race for the Cure.  So this weekend will definitely be a weekend that you want to get out early and buy multiple papers!!! Although, here in ABQ, who knows what we will get.  Probably nothing.  I'm not trying to be a Johnny Raincloud, but that's how I feel.

Photo of the day

Abandoned Plaza

I took this picture in the same plaza in Los Ranchos de Taos that a few of the previous photos of the day came from.  I have an infatuation with New Mexico's colors and architecture, I feel like no one else in the country is bold enough to create things like this.  I also feel like after living here, anywhere else we move to will be visually and architecturally boring.  Where else does everyone paint their homes in a variety of bright colors?  Pretty much nowhere, pretty much.

Recipe time! Yummy tomato feta salad

Diced Grape Tomato Salad with Feta and Basil
Photo by Payje Bier Photography (www.p-b-photography.com)

This is a great recipe for dinner parties or potlucks, it's full of fancy ingredients that say "I know what I'm doing when it comes to salad!"  It's usually a pretty pricey one to make, but with recent coupons you can make it for less than 5.00.  I have made this literally probably 50 times, and it always comes out great.

What you need:
- One 4oz tub of Atheno’s Feta cheese (2 for 5.00 at Albertson’s this week, BOGO coupon from Atheno’s Facebook makes the tub only 1.25!)
-Two pints grape tomatoes (these often go on sale 2 for 3.00 at Sunflower Market, also can be VERY cheap at farmer’s markets this time of year!)
-One very small red onion, or half of a larger one (.77/lb this week at Sunflower Market, cheap at farmer’s markets too!)
-1.5 tsp fresh basil (you can also use “tube” basil, you can find it in the fresh herb section at the grocery store.  It’s just like fresh basil, usually costs about 2.50, and there’s enough in the tube to use it for about a year!  Unless you’re a basil freak.)
-2.5 tbs olive oil (eyeball it)
-2.5 tbs white wine vinegar
-Salt and pepper to taste
You will most likely have the oil and vinegar in your cupboard already, but if you don’t, we do currently have a coupon out for Fillipo Berrigio olive oil, and Heinz vinegar!!

*Note! If you are cooking for 2, cut this recipe in half.  The leftovers will save for about 1 day in the fridge, but not much longer.

What you do
-Cut each tomato in half horizontally and place in a large bowl
-Dice onions very finely and add to bowl
-Add basil (if using fresh, chop as finely as possible) and mix thoroughly
-Mix in oil and vinegar, salt and pepper
-Add full container of feta last
-Enjoy!!

Coupons expiring tomorrow!!!

It's that sad, sad day of the month when we know that after tomorrow, our coupons will be (well for the most part) worthless to us.  But, we have to remember that there will always be more!!! And don't get rid of your old coupons, did you know that you can donate expired coupons to military families??? Overseas military commissaries accept coupons that are up to 6 months expired!  This is a perfect way to help out families that donate their lives to helping US out, and deserve everything that we can do for them!  I Am THAT Lady has compiled a really great post on how to donate your expired coupons.

Calzones: a great idea for dinner

Photo by Payje Bier Photography (www.p-b-photography.com)

There's a restaurant in Craig, Colorado called Carelli's that has the BEST calzones I've ever eaten.  Justin and I used to go there at least once a week when we lived in CO, and we never once got anything different.  We don't live there anymore, and I had such a huge craving for a Carelli's calzone that I knew something had to be done.  So, I decided to try to replicate them.  Below are the ingredients that I used, but you can really put anything in the world that you want in a calzone!  There's a restaurant in Fort Collins that actually does just that.  They have buffalo chicken, philly cheese steak, chicken bacon ranch, etc.  The possibilities are endless, and the only other things you need are pizza dough and an oven!

What you need: (to make the ones I made)
-Refrigerated pizza dough (or you can make your own, or you can get a boxed mix to make it)
-Mozzarella cheese
-1 onion, sliced
-1 package of mushrooms, sliced
-1 lb ground beef
-2 cloves garlic
-2 tsps of: basil, thyme, oregano, and red pepper flakes
-Ricotta cheese
-1 package pepperoni

What you do:
-Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
-Brown ground beef in a pan with garlic, basil, thyme, oregano, and red pepper flakes, drain
-Roll pizza dough out into a 12x12 inch square, then cut into four squares, and place on baking tray (you will probably need 2 trays)
-Layer cheese, beef, onions, mushrooms, pepperoni and ricotta on one side of the dough square.  Fit as much as you can in there, trust me, the more the better!
-Fold other side of the square over and roll edges so that the calzone is sealed.
-Bake for 30 minutes
-Serve with marinara, parmesan cheese, and red pepper flakes

As you can see above, you can really put anything in the dough that you want, anything at all!  This is a fun meal, and it makes the house smell great!  Enjoy!

Craft time: Leaf Garland

This was really easy to make, and looks really cute hung or draped in the living room!  (Although mine looks like it was made by a three year old).  You can find different versions of this all over the place, most are very tidy and pretty, with perfectly sized stitches.  I decided to throw caution to the wind on this one, and didn't make any kind of template or stencil for the leaves, I just went crazy cutting out shapes free form.  Oh well, it still looks cute!

Here's what you need:
A few sheets of felt (whatever colors you prefer)
Scissors
Embroidery thread
Embroidery needle or quilting needle
Colored pencil (if you want to draw shapes or create a stencil)

Now just make your leaves and sew them together!  I like to make a little knot between each leaf so they don't slide around too much.  You can be really creative with this project!

OMG, CHI flat iron as low as 54.60 shipped!

Who loves getting their hair did???

I am a flat iron junkie, and I love my CHI more than anything.  I would actually go as far as to say it's my one of my most prized possessions.  They work like a dream, and I would say that they are worth the retail price, but you don't have to pay the retail price! You can get the cheap-o, less quality, ULTA version for 99.99 on sale (retail price 149.95), and those are not the real deal.  Amazon has the PROFESSIONAL GRADE CHI, brand spanking new, for as low as 48.00, plus 6.60 for shipping!  The retail price of this CHI is 190.00, you are saving an incredible 142.00 here.  This is the absolute perfect gift for a teenage girl (it's never too early to start Christmas shopping), and you can look like a big spender without actually having to be.  Or, you can just treat yourself to a new one... I've got your back.  Click the photo link above or get it here!

Crepes!

How to make easy crepes!
(This is not an original photo, it came from the the blog with the recipe)

I decided to make crepes the other day for breakfast (I don't have any pictures because they got eaten too quickly!) but I was really surprised by how easy they were and how simple the ingredients were.  It was pretty much just like making pancakes!  I got a great recipe from Once Upon a Cutting Board, but I didn't do the raspberry cheesecake part (didn't have the ingredients).  You can put pretty much whatever you want inside crepes, people usually do either sweet or savory.  I did some of both.  I grabbed what I had on hand and ended up with 2 different types of crepes.  In the first one I put banana slices, a little bit of almond butter, Cool Whip and Hershey's Syrup (I wished I had Nutella instead!).  In the second one I put a piece of ham, some grated cheddar, a few slices of onion, and then cracked an egg on it and stuck it in the oven for just under 20 minutes.  They were both delicious!
Give it a shot, and get the recipe here!

Don't forget about the giveaway!

Just wanted to remind you all (and inform my new readers) that we are doing a giveaway when Things You Want to Know, Places You Want to Go reaches 200 Facebook fans!  Up for grabs is a $30 Amazon giftcard!  Suh-weet! So keep on reading, and keep on liking, and let's get to 200!

I love overage!

The 6.00 off wyb 2 Schick disposable packs should be no secret by now to anyone, but I just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that you can get a money maker on it at Wal Mart, one of the only places I know of (definitely the only place here in Albuquerque) that does overage.  I had 2 coupons the other day for 6.00 off wyb 2 Schick disposables, and I had 2 coupons for 5.00 off of one Schick Hydro.
I bought four packs of disposables and got a 4.00 overage, 2 Schick Hydros (5.47 each, .47 each after coupon), a package of celery, a bell pepper, a box of elbow macaroni, a package of pizza dough, and a Diet Coke for only 2.47 OOP.
If you have a Wal Mart nearby, go use your coupons there for the overage!  It makes NO SENSE AT ALL to have the store adjust the price of your coupon down when you could be spending that extra four dollars!

How to make old t-shirts into new pretties

Everyone has a closet full of old t shirts that they never ever wear.  I know from experience that no one wants to get rid of these t shirts either (although I don't know why... maybe it's some weird mental thing, like "I may not have a ton of money, but at least I'm rich in t shirts!")  Well, now you can start busting those uglies out of the closet, and making them into stuff you actually WILL use.  The first one we're going to do is t shirt scarves.  I had been wanting to try this for a while, and found a bunch of tutorials online, as well as one in a book that I have. I kind of mish mashed it all together to make my own step by step tutorial for you guys today.

Here's what you need:
scissors and rotary cutter not pictured
-1 t shirt
-ruler
-self healing mat
-rotary cutter
-scissors
-beads if you want them for decoration

Here's what you do:
Cut a straight line across the t shirt, just below the lettering (your scarf might look really weird with the lettering on it, or it might look really cool... but I cut mine off.)

Cut strips across your t shirt, I made mine 1 inch wide, but I would actually suggest going a little wider.  Leave about a 1-1.5 inch margin on each side (see picture below)

This is what it should look like after you cut it.  You don't want to cut all the way across, because margins are going to be what holds the scarf together.

Pick it up like so.  (Look at me being a dork smiling for the camera).  Put you hand through the t shirt, in the layer between the strips and pull it apart so it looks like this:
We're getting there!!!

Now we're going to use the sleeve to make a new strip to wrap around each side.  Cut the sleeve open so that it's not a cylinder anymore.  Then cut 2 strips from the piece of fabric.

Wrap the new strips around the part of the shirt that didn't get cut initially.  It's hard to explain, you should know by looking which part this is.

This is what it's gonna look like, you can tuck the edges of the wrapping strip underneath.

At this point, it can be all done if you want it to be!!!
Or, you can put some decorations on!

For beads:
Cut one piece off of each side, you will need it to be longer than just one piece.  Pull out tight so that the strand gets skinnier.  You can string the beads on to the piece, then tie a knot between them, or just put on beads without knots.  Really, you can do whatever you want!!!
Here is my finished version:
It's sort of scarfey-necklacey.  But super cute, especially for Fall!  I can't wait to wear it!  It's actually really hot out right now and when I took the picture outside yesterday I was sweating while I was wearing it.  If you make one, send a picture, I would love to see them!

BEST food storage idea EVER!!!

Just found this really amazing idea from Muffin Tin Mama, I can't believe I never thought of this!  Storing your herbs in ice cubes in the freezer.  Incredible.  Read her instructions here!

Country Crock coupon

.40 off of one Country Crock on Facebook, not super high value... But in the process of finding this coupon, I found out that they are coming out with a new "Pumpkin Spice" spread.  SO EXCITED!  I love fall stuff, so pumpkin butter sounds like about the best thing ever!  Head over to their Facebook to get the coupon.

New Bird's Eye coupon

Facebook's stupid new setup is making it really hard for me to keep track of what is going on here!  I don't know how it's quite going to work out staying up to date on Facebook coupons, but we'll see!  I just found one for Bird's Eye for 1.00 off wyb 2 Birds Eye Steamfresh vegetables.  These are generally 1.50, and usually go on sale for 1.00, so you should probably be able to pick some up for .50 each!  To get the coupon, you have to put together a plate (you don't have to upload a picture unless you want to).  After you do that it will give you your coupon!
