Cadillac Ranch
Photo by Payje Bier/Payje Bier Photography

The "Cadillac Ranch" is just a couple of miles West of Amarillo, TX.  It was so crazy to see old cars jutting up out of the field... and there is literally NOTHING around it either, so it looks like you're coming up on a rusty Stonehenge.  We were lucky enough to find some spray paint cans that someone had left behind, so we got to leave our mark on the cars too.

Cheer Give Away

Cheer is having a Facebook give away at 3:00 pm (that means 1:00 for us here in Mountain time), I don't entirely understand how it works, but I'm pretty sure you have to click on something colorful in the music video that they have you watch... and then I guess you win something?  We'll see....

.50 off Bar S Ham coupon

Head over to Bar S to get your monthly coupon from them!  Just put in your info, then print out your coupon!  You can print twice.  I've never had Bar S ham, has anyone else?

End of the month coupons :(

Photo by Payje Bier/Pagina Bonita Photography (www.p-b-photography.com)

Watch out folks, many of your coupons are probably expiring this week! And by this week I mean tomorrow... But the good news is that we get new coupons to take their places in the lonely base-ball card slots.  We already got this month's P&G Brandsaver, which was full of great coups, some higher value than last month even.  There are also a bunch of new Target printables, which I think are going to come in handy, and might even be stackable here soon!  Head over here to get them, I'm not a super huge fan of how they're doing things over on that website these days... I don't care for change, especially when it just means that they moved everything around on us!
Aside from the mass expiration, I am perturbed by the progression of time for another reason... I can't BELIEVE it is almost September!  Although you would never know it here in Albuquerque, soon it will be time for trick or treating and turkeys.  Where in the heck did this year go!?

My segment on New Mexico Style!

I had a great time!  I don't know what Youtube has against me making a decent face in the thumbnails though!  Haha, it was such a great experience, and everyone at KASA was so nice and made me feel so welcome!   The video is above in case you didn't get a chance to see it earlier, and if you are here because you DID see it earlier, take a minute and check out my post from earlier today.  Thanks!!!!

Get on the Ham wagon

(This is not an original photo)

Ham is a glorious money saving idea that I only just discovered last week!  My mom used to make ham a lot when I was little, and I really loved it all the time.  I've been trying to be more creative with what I cook recently, so I called up my Mama and asked her what to do.  It was great, not only the first time, but for left-overs too.  I made grilled cheese sandwiches with ham and honey mustard, yum!  Not only that, but there is enough frozen now for about 4 more dinners, plus I saved the bone with some meat on it.  I paid 12.00 for a 10 lb ham, and that 12.00 is going to end up with I don't even know how many meals! Plus it's easy as pie to cook.
Here is how I did it:
Pre-heat the oven to 325 degrees
Unwrap the ham, and place it cut-down in a BIG baking dish
Cover it with foil (this can be tricky because you're going to want to do it so that the foil doesn't touch the ham, kind of make a tend around it)
Pop it in the oven!  Heat for about 15-20 minutes per pound, if you have a ham that came already FULLY cooked, for a PARTIALLY cooked ham, refer to the directions on the wrapping.
For the last hour, pull off the foil and start putting on your glaze.  You can glaze with whatever you want, the sweeter the better!  Add glaze every 15 minutes or so until the ham is done cooking!  Cut it up and eat it!  Here is what I used for the glaze, I just made it up (just do everything to taste, there are no measurements here):
French's Mustard
Soy Sauce
Brown Sugar
Honey
Red Pepper Flakes

Here are some ideas for left-over ham:
Ham sandwiches, or grilled cheese with ham
Mac and cheese with ham and broccoli
Quiche
Omelets with ham, cheese, and veggies
Split pea soup with ham (one of my favorites! Make sure you save the bone for this one!)
The list goes on!

Welcome New Mexico Style Viewers!

After watching New Mexico Style today, some of you may be new to my site.  Welcome!  I'm so glad you're here.  I had such a great time doing the show today, and Nikki and Kristen were so nice. Everything went so fast, I didn't even get to talk about all the stuff I brought with me!  So if you saw the show and were wondering about all of the groceries, here's the low-down:  The retail value for all of the stuff that I had with me today is 204.25.  The price that I paid for all of that stuff was 23.33!  I bought it over the course of about a month, not all in one trip, but I did it right here in Albuquerque.  SO, if I can do it, you can too!

If you're here, it probably means that you are interested in saving some money in your life, and I can tell you, you came to the right place!  First things first I would like to direct you to my Youtube videos (on the left side of this screen).  They're going to lay everything out for you, and take you step by step through how to get started.  And remember, if you ever need any help, please feel free to contact me with any questions.  Enjoy!

At Smith's today I ran into a peelie on a 5 pack of Kraft Mac and Cheese for a FREE box of Capri Suns when you buy the Mac and Cheese (2.50).  So, you are getting 5 boxes of Mac and Cheese plus a free box of Capri Suns, all for 2.50 which is a great deal, especially if you have kiddos.  If you have the coupon for 1.00 off wyb 3 Capri Suns you can increase your dealie-ness, but even without it it's a great deal.

S-A-L-E at Rue 21!

I was in the mall today trying to find something to make me look pretty on tv on Monday, and was drawn into Rue 21 by the massive sale banners outside the store.  After struggling to find decent sandals ALL summer, I found not one but 2 pairs today!  And I'm excited because I doubt it's going to snow here for at least 3 months, so I still have plenty of time to wear them!  But what I'm the most excited about is that I paid $7 altogether, and this included two pairs of shoes and a really cute head band.  Where else can you get adorable sandals for $3 a pair and an awesome head band for only a buck?  I don't know how long this sale is going to last, but it's worth your time!

Bic pens coupon

This might be old news but I hadn't heard about it yet... Bic is giving away pens through 8/30 for 10 hours a day, every day.  They're all out for today, but I did get a coupon for 1.00 off of one pack of Bic Easy Glide pens.  You may still be able to match these up with back to school deals!  Like Bic on Facebook to get started.

Things You Want to Know, Places You Want to Go on New Mexico Style!

Tune in on Monday because I will be on New Mexico Style with my coupons!  I am so excited for this opportunity to share couponing with New Mexico, and to show everyone that you really can do it here!  The show is on KASA Fox (channel 2 here in Albuquerque) this Monday from 8 am to 9 am, and my segment will be first.  If you don't live in NM but still want to watch, you can watch it live on their website here.  I'm just pleased as punch about this, and especially to hopefully get some more local readers, because Albuquerque really needs a couponing community!

Coupons.com's new savings club

Coupons.com just launched a new "Savings Club" program that allows you access to more coupons, higher value coupons, first access to new coupons, and apparently a premium coupon search engine.  They are going to be charging $3 per month, or $30 per year (you could try month to month to see how you like it, buying the whole year isn't that much better of a deal and I feel like it's easier to let go of $3 a month than $30 all at once.)  They also have a one month free trial.  I'm not sure yet what I am going to do, I think I'll try the free trial and see how this works out.  If you want to wait and see what I find out, I will be sure and let everyone know if I think it's worth it or not!

Mountain Desert
Photo by Payje Bier/Payje Bier Photography

The Great Sand Dunes National Park was about the coolest place ever!  It took us a really long time to find it because Google maps took us on a dirt road to a dead end (thanks a lot Google).  Funny how much we rely on technology that we would even follow it onto an unmarked dirt road into the middle of nowhere when anyone should have known to stay on the main road.  Anyway, before we went I was telling Justin that I had this image in my mind of the Sahara desert, but that I doubted it would really be that way.  I was right! Or wrong, depending on how you look at it.  We got closer and closer, and it really did look like there was a miniature Sahara desert in the middle of the San Luis Valley!  The dunes were huge, and it was crazy to see them in contrast to the mountains in the background.  It was so neat, and the entrance fee was only $3 per person!  They had great facilities and picnic areas too.  We sincerely regret not bringing snowboards, but that's for next time I guess!  Click here to find out more about the Great Sand Dunes (I love national parks).

50% off Fall decor this week at Hobby Lobby

Popped in to Hobby Lobby (or the HobLob as I like to call it) today for some fabric for the new quilt I'm starting.  In case you weren't aware, I love the HobLob for fabric because not only do they have great prices to start with, their entire stock of calico fabrics are ALWAYS 30% off the listed price.  Anyway, that is neither here nor there.  The big news here is that this week their Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations are on sale for 50% off.  If you love to decorate your house for every single holiday (I do) then you know how expensive it can get.  Hobby Lobby has so much incredibly awesome decorating stuff and right now you can get it for HALF PRICE!  There are tons of things there for under a dollar, and it's not junk either.  I would buy it all if I could.

Sweet and Spicy Dijon Slaw

Photo by Payje Bier/Pagina Bonita Photography (www.p-b-photography.com)

My mom and I made this for dinner the other night kind of just by making it up, and it was a hit!  It's ever so slightly different from regular coleslaw, but not too different.  Basically it is just plain good and not plain boring.
What you need:
1 head cabbage
5 baby carrots
1 small vidalia onion
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup dijon mustard
2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
salt and pepper

What you do:
Grate cabbage and carrots together, medium sized grate, into a bowl
Mince onion and add to cabbage and carrots
In a separate small bowl, mix the remaining ingredients until smooth
Pour dressing into veggie mix until thoroughly coated.  Remember to add slowly, you can always add more but you can't take it out if you get too much in there!
Add salt and pepper to taste.
Chill for at least one hour so that the sugar can dissolve and the dressing can absorb into the cabbage
Enjoy!

If anyone is feeling contest inspired today...

After my last post and the news about Morganne hitting it big, I am feeling like it's time to enter some more contests!  Healthy Choice's Freshen Your Freezer contest is over tonight at midnight, but there is still plenty of time to enter!  If your freezer, like mine, is a COMPLETE wreck with things shoved in every crack and corner, all you have to do is take a picture of it!  Head on over to the Health Choice Facebook page to find out more, and good luck!

BIG winner!

Congrats a billion times to my reader (and friend) Morganne who won the GRAND PRIZE in the Get Crackin' Wonderful Pistachios contest on Facebook!  This is big news, I am so proud of her!  She must have beat out a million trillion people for this.  I won a coupon for a free bag of pistachios and I was on top of the world, but Morganne wins VIP passes to the Wonderful Pistachios 400, airfare, lodging and more!  So amazing!
If you haven't already gotten it from my incessant reminders yet, let Morganne be your inspiration.  You really can win these things, it's totally realistic!  You just have to make sure and like every company possible on Facebook, and enter every contest.  If they have a contest where you have to write about something, get creative!  You might just find yourself on the way to Wonderful Pistachios 400.  Congrats again to Morganne, click here to find out more about the contest!

Comment cards and positive feedback

I have had some really great, (and some really horrible) experiences with cashiers and couponing.  Sometimes they can be very rude and difficult, while other times there are cashiers that are patient, friendly, and altogether a delight to deal with.  I think that it is super important that we recognize the employees that make our lives easier as couponers.  After working in retail, I have learned that positive feedback is not only a personal treasure and accomplishment, it also sets you apart from other employees at your job.  It means SO MUCH when a customer goes out of their way to tell your manager what a great experience they had.  So, I just wanted to remind everyone that when you take a long time in the check out with your coupons, or if all of your coupons have to be manually entered, or something doesn't work out and you have to void your transaction and your cashier maintains a friendly attitude, you should ABSOLUTELY recognize them not only with a sincere thank you, but also go the extra mile for them and speak to the manager or write a compliment card.  This makes their day, and also helps friendly cashiers STAY friendly towards couponers.
